‘Cha Jun-hwan’s competitor’ Vincent Zhou tests positive for COVID-19

Vincent Zhou of the United States, a competitor to the male figure skater Cha Jun-hwan, tested positive for COVID-19 a day before the individual event at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

According to Reuters, the American Ice Skating Federation said in a statement today (7th) that “Zhou tested positive for COVID-19 the previous day.”

Zhou, who is aiming to win the men’s single medal in figure skating, met a variable called Corona 19 ahead of the short program to be held at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing tomorrow.

The federation explained, “We are currently conducting additional tests to confirm Zhou’s condition. If negative, he can participate in the men’s single short program held in the morning of the 8th.”

However, if the additional test is positive, Zhou’s individual competition will be cancelled.

Zhou finished sixth in the men’s singles figure skating at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

In this competition, he participated in the men’s single free skating in the figure skating team event yesterday and finished 3rd (171.44 points), helping the US national team to win the silver medal.
