The most successful cooking shows
Tim Mälzer’s “Kitchen Impossible” is one of the most popular cooking shows in Germany. But who is his competition?
Tim Mälzer (51) is entering the seventh season with his popular cooking show “Kitchen Impossible” in 2022. From February 6 (Sundays at 8:15 p.m. on VOX or RTL +) he will duel with some of his peers. But Mälzer’s show is not the only one for which cooking fans in Germany tune in.
In his cooking show “Kitchen Impossible”, Tim Mälzer challenges other professional chefs to a duel. In the format, which was first broadcast in 2014, the opponents travel to two different countries. There they have to recreate the dish of a top chef without even knowing the list of ingredients. The dish is then rated by regulars, friends, or family members of the chef whose dish was recreated. Whoever has collected the most points at the end wins the duel. The show has an 8.9 rating on the Internet Movie Database website, clearly distinguishing itself from its competitors (maximum rating is 10 points). In 2017 and 2018 Mälzer was also able to secure the German television award in the category “Best Factual Entertainment”.
At “The Taste” ambitious cooking professionals meet passionate amateur cooks. Although the contestants have to arrange their dish handsomely on a special spoon, it is taste that counts in the end. This is decided by the jury, which does not know who cooked which dish. In the end, the winner can win the publication of their own cookbook and 50,000 euros. The show is already in its tenth round this year and is thus celebrating an anniversary. The culinary spectacle can be seen on Sat.1 and on Joyn. The show gets a 6.5 on IMDb.
“Rosin’s Restaurants” is a little different than its competition. There is no competition between professional or amateur chefs on the show. On the contrary: the aim of each episode is to save a restaurant from going out. Two-star chef Frank Rosin (55) gives everything and provides the owners with all-round coaching. To do this, he whips the kitchen, cook and crew into shape. The chef with helper syndrome saved the first restaurant from going out of business in 2009, and the 14th season was already running at the end of 2021. The TV series, rated 6.5 on “IMDb”, is shown by kabel eins and Joyn.
“The Kitchen Battle”
“Die Küchenschlacht” can be seen from Monday to Friday at 2:15 p.m. on ZDF and in advance in the ZDF media library. In the show, six hobby chefs cook selected dishes alongside Germany’s most famous TV chefs. These are then tried out and evaluated daily by a juror. The show itself first aired in 2008 and was rated 6.4 on IMDb. It’s also worth tuning in for the show’s recipes, which you can download and recreate.
“Grill the Henssler”
In the VOX program “Grill den Henssler” not only juicy steaks, but also real celebrities or the star chef Steffen Henssler (49) are “grilled”. In a cooking battle, three celebrities have to defeat the professional. Whoever conjures up the tastiest menu for the jury wins prize money for a good cause. The whole thing is moderated by Laura Wontorra (32), who also looks at the fingers of the celebrities. The show was rated 5.6 in the “Internet Movie Database” and was even awarded the audience “Bambi” in 2015. The cooking show was first broadcast in 2013 and consists of 15 seasons.
