Wanda Young is dead. The Marvelettes band member reportedly died on December 15th at the age of 78.
Wanda Young, who stormed the charts in the 1960s as a member of the successful US girl band The Marvelettes, is dead. She died on December 15th at the age of 78, as reported by “The New York Times”. According to her daughter Meta Ventress, she died of the consequences of a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The band landed one of their greatest hits right at the start of their career with the song “Please Mr. Postman”, which hit number one on the US charts. It was later covered by the Beatles (1963) and the Carpenters (1974). In 1970 the group broke up, the Marvelettes had released nine studio albums by this time. In 2004 he was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
