Cold wave peaked across the country… Coldest weather in Seoul in 41 years


Today (26th), Sunday, the cold wave reached its climax, and morning temperatures across the country have been renewed as ‘all-time lows’.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the lowest temperature in the morning in the inland of Gangwon fell to around minus 20 degrees Celsius, and the central region, inland northern Gyeongsangbuk-do, and eastern Jeollabuk-do recorded around minus 15 degrees Celsius and around -10 degrees Celsius in the rest of the region.

The lowest temperature in Seoul this winter was minus 15.5 degrees Celsius, and it was the coldest weather in 41 years since it recorded minus 16.2 degrees Celsius on December 29, 1980.

In Eunpyeong-gu, the temperature even dropped to minus 18.5 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperature in Sokcho, Gangwon-do was -14.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest in 42 years since -14.7 degrees Celsius on December 27, 1979.

The lowest temperature in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do was 10.3 degrees below zero, a record low for the first time in 16 years.

The lowest temperature in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province, was minus 17.3 degrees Celsius, the second lowest on record.

The temperature will rise from noon on Monday the 27th and return to the normal level on Tuesday the 28th.

In the west coast of South Chungcheong Province, it snows at about 1 cm per hour, and it is snowing or blowing lightly in the inland of Chungnam, the inland of Jeolla, and 5 provinces in the West Sea.

Heavy snow warnings have been issued for the northern and mountainous regions of Jeju, Shinan, Muan, Mokpo, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo in Jeollanam-do.

A heavy snow advisory has been issued for Jeju Island and Nambu, Gochang and Buan in Jeollabuk-do, Yeonggwang, Jindo and Hampyeong in Jeollanam-do, and a heavy snow advisory in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do.

In the mountainous areas of Jeju and Dokdo, Ulleungdo, snowfall is expected to be 10 to 30 centimeters, and up to 40 centimeters of snow will accumulate in places where it accumulates a lot.

The estimated snowfall for the rest of the region is Jeju 5-10 cm excluding the west coast of Jeolla and mountainous areas, 3-8 cm in the western inland of Jeolla and the west coast of South Chungcheong Province, and 1-3 cm in the inland of Chungnam and 5 islands in the West Sea.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said that heavy snow is expected to accumulate until the 27th, centered on the west coast of Jeolla, Jeju, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and the west coast of South Chungcheong Province, and urged people to prepare so that there is no damage.
