Former President Park Geun-hye, who was convicted and imprisoned in the National Nongdan case, was released on a special amnesty.

It has been 4 years and 9 months since the arrest on March 31, 2017.

Former Prime Minister Han Myung-sook, who was released from prison after being sentenced to death on charges of illegally receiving political funds, was also reinstated.

The government announced today (24th) that 3,94 people, including them, were granted special amnesty, reduced sentences, and reinstatement on the 31st to mark the new year of 2022.

Former President Park was sentenced to 20 years in prison, a fine of 18 billion won, and a penalty of 3.5 billion won by the Supreme Court in January this year for the case of state-run non-government farming and payment of special activity expenses by the National Intelligence Service. The Saenuri Party (currently the People’s Power) was sentenced to two years in prison for meddling in nominations.

The government included ex-President Park in the last minute of amnesty considering his health deteriorated due to his long imprisonment.

Former Prime Minister Han Man-ho was convicted of receiving 900 million won in illegal political funds from former CEO Han Shin-gun in 2007 and was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 83 million won by the Supreme Court in 2015.

He served his sentence and was released from prison in August 2017.

Former President Lee Myung-bak was exempted from amnesty.

Former President Lee was sentenced to 17 years in prison and a fine of 13 billion won by the Supreme Court in October of last year on charges of receiving large bribes from Samsung, etc. and embezzling company funds.
