US FDA approves corona pill… Bought at a pharmacy and taken at home

Today (23rd) news, let’s take a closer look at the Corona treatment that people are interested in. U.S. health authorities have granted emergency approval for Pfizer’s pill-form coronavirus treatment to be consumed at home. In the future, it is possible to buy a treatment for the corona virus at a pharmacy like a cold medicine. However, it seems that it will take some time for sufficient quantities to be released.

Today’s first news, Correspondent Kim Jong-won from New York.

Pfizer’s Corona treatment pill, Paxrovid.

Pfizer previously announced that Paxrovid would reduce the hospitalization and death rate for high-risk patients with COVID-19 by 89%, and it was expected that it would be an important tool in the fight against Omicron.

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given emergency approval for this corona treatment pill to be taken at home.

High-risk groups such as those aged 12 years and older with underlying medical conditions are eligible.

Paxrovid should be taken every 12 hours for 5 days from the onset of corona symptoms, 3 tablets at a time, 30 tablets in total, and this is one serving.

Now with one more CDC approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Corona pills can be bought at local pharmacies like these and taken at home.

The White House has already secured 10 million doses of Pfizer treatment, and announced that it will supply 260,000 doses in January next year alone.

The problem is the initial supply.

It takes about 9 months to manufacture, so it is expected that it will take some time for it to be released in the United States, so it seems that it is not possible to receive a prescription unconditionally if you have Corona.

The FDA said that you should not take the drug for prevention even if you do not have COVID-19, and it has not been approved for use in patients with severe symptoms that already require hospitalization.

He added that side effects such as decreased taste, diarrhea, high blood pressure, and muscle pain may occur when taking it.
