Cultivating creative convergence talents tailored to the era of the 4th industrial revolution
Seoul National University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as Seoul National University of Science and Technology) cultivates future talents with global competitiveness by utilizing its strengths as Seoul’s only national university and convergence specialized university. Seoul National University of Science and Technology ranked 17th overall and 2nd among national universities in the 2021 JoongAng Ilbo university evaluation. In addition, it ranked first in the ratio of start-up education and fourth in scholarship payment ratio to tuition. In addition, in the 2021 QS World University Rankings by academic field announced by ‘QS’, a global university evaluation agency in the UK, it ranked first in the petroleum engineering field (energy) in Korea and 23rd in Asia. Seoul National University of Science and Technology is the only Korean university to enter the top 100 in the world in this field. In order to nurture creative convergence talents who will lead the era of the 4th industrial revolution, Seoul National University of Science and Technology opened the Artificial Intelligence Applied Department this year, followed by the Intelligent Semiconductor Engineering Department and the Future Energy Convergence Department in the 2022 academic year. Seoul National University of Science and Technology operates a creative convergence university centered on cutting-edge academic fields including three new departments in accordance with the government’s policy to foster future talents, and plans to provide hands-on experience-type education to students.

No major! ‘Discovery Semester’ broadens the path of study
Seoul National University of Science and Technology introduced a student-centered ST semester system and established a discovery semester that supports student-led self-development, and is implementing flexible academic management and differentiated curriculum. ST semester system promotion period is 14 weeks in total. In the first stage, online special lectures by each school are conducted, and in the second stage, classes for the discovery semester are conducted. Finally, in the third stage, non-curricular programs are operated. In the Discovery Semester, students can concentrate on a total of 11 subjects for 8 weeks at 4 schools: Coding School, Artificial Intelligence School, Startup School, and Future Core Technology School, focusing on the core fields needed by society and where students are focused. let it be Therefore, students can build knowledge and careers in various fields of study regardless of their major. Seoul National University of Science and Technology provides opportunities to supplement the activities lacking during the semester and expand core competencies by learning actual subjects and non-curricular subjects that are difficult to experience in the regular curriculum during the extended summer vacation through the implementation of the discovery semester.

Leading student growth through ‘EPiC graduation requirements’
Seoul National University of Science and Technology must meet the ‘EPiC graduation requirements’ as well as graduation credits and graduation major tests to graduate from the 2021 academic year. The EPiC graduation requirements induce students’ diverse educational experiences and lead to student growth based on the school’s three major talents (ethical, practical, and creative) and six core competencies (humanities, communication, academics, global, creativity, and convergence). It is a graduation-related system for betting. These include university designation requirements and extracurricular requirements. In order to graduate, you must achieve 700 or more of the accreditation points given in the detailed items of each requirement. The university designation requirements consist of mandatory items that must be obtained at least one of overseas exchange students, foreign language, entrepreneurship, field training, completion of additional majors, and registration in academic journals, and additional items such as patent application, conference presentation, certification, and competition. In addition, the non-examination requirements are largely divided into career exploration and career design, customized career competency reinforcement, sharing contribution track, and major-related track. Students can participate in a variety of extracurricular programs to obtain accreditation scores and systematically prepare for their careers, thereby nurturing competitiveness and self-confidence.

In particular, the ‘Intelligent Semiconductor Engineering’ and ‘Future Energy Convergence Department’, which were newly established in the Creative Convergence University this year, will select 8 students through regular appointments. The selection method for on-time admission is the same as in the previous year, and 100% of the SAT scores are selected, and standard scores are used to reflect the SAT scores. As for the areas of reflection by major, engineering reflects Korean, mathematics (calculus, geometry), English, and inquiry, and humanities reflects Korean, mathematics (calculus, geometry/probability and statistics 1), English, and inquiry. The Department of Creative Writing, Department of Sports Science, and College of Design (except for the non-practical examination of the industrial design major) reflect Korean, English, and inquiry. Q. I wonder why you chose our university a year ago.
I searched and analyzed a lot of data while writing the application. For example, I looked at the profile of professors in the department I applied for and compared where the thesis is listed, how the curriculum is conducted, and what programs the department is running. Then, I was drawn to the fact that Seoul National University of Science and Technology is pursuing a joint degree program with ‘Canada UBC University’ in the Department of Artificial Intelligence Applied Science. I applied to our department thanks to the practical curriculum and the conviction that ‘we will become a major department in the future’.

Q. Please tell me about the know-how and secrets that allowed you to pass on time.
Each school and each department has a different rate of reflection for each subject, so you should check it carefully. Most science departments have a high rate of reflection on math and greed, but that doesn’t mean that scores in other subjects can be low. In my case, I got a perfect score in Korean, so I was able to cover math and overexploitation that I had not seen relatively well. So, don’t give up on one subject and do your best until the end.

Q. Are there any precautions you would like to give to the ‘regulars’?
When you apply on time, you usually use the acceptance prediction program on the application site. Here, the pass rate is indicated by the number of squares in the figure. Usually, if it is 5 to 7 squares, it is said to be a ‘safe zone’. I applied to all universities with 6 to 8 slots, but I thought it would be okay to take on an adventure with one of the three cards. We recommend that you apply in a balanced way by considering the keywords of upward, confident, and stable.

Q. For new students who are curious about our school and department, please introduce something you are proud of as a senior.
The good thing about Seoul National University of Science and Technology is, first of all, that the school is on a wide flat ground, so it is easy to move around. Also, the campus is pretty and it is famous as a filming location for dramas. As it is the only national university in Seoul, there are many opportunities to participate in state-run projects and scholarships are good. In the case of our Department of Applied Artificial Intelligence, all freshmen are supported with a 4-year scholarship. There are passionate young professors who pay attention to students, and above all, because classes are held in a new building, you can study in a comfortable and convenient environment. Students, you have worked hard all this time! I hope to get the results I want and to be able to meet as a junior next year.
