The French government has predicted that the number of new COVID-19 cases per day could soon reach 100,000.
French Health Minister Olivier Verand said in a BFM TV interview on the 22nd that the number of new cases of COVID-19 could rise from about 70,000 today to 100,000 soon, Reuters reported.
Omicron, a new strain of COVID-19, will become the dominant species in France in early January next year, Minister Verand said.
Omicron is currently spreading rapidly, mainly in flies, at around 20% level.
Minister Olivier said he is not currently considering additional quarantine restrictions, but any possibility cannot be ruled out and he expects more vaccinations to stop the spread of the virus.
As of the previous day, France had 72,832 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 210 deaths.
