The number of new confirmed cases of Corona 19 was 5,300, a decrease of about 900 from the previous day, but the number of patients with severe cases reached 1,000 yesterday (19th) as well. After the third vaccination, there were even domestic cases infected with Omicron mutation, so the quarantine authorities are nervous.

This is a report by reporter Kim Deok-hyun.

Yesterday, there were 5,318 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 5,258 domestic cases excluding 60 imported cases.

The number of confirmed cases, which remained in the 7,000 range last week, decreased to 5,000 over the weekend, but it is analyzed that the weekend effect is large.

The quarantine authorities are paying attention to the situation this week.

The number of confirmed cases must also turn to a decreasing trend, but above all, it is urgent to reduce the number of severe cases and deaths.

Yesterday, the number of patients with severe serious illness decreased by 28 from the previous day, to 997.

The death toll rose by 54.

The utilization rate of intensive care beds for COVID-19 is close to 80% nationwide and 90% in the metropolitan area, which is virtually saturated.

In Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, a confirmed pregnant woman who was undergoing home treatment yesterday inquired about 16 nearby hospitals, but could not find a room and eventually gave birth in an ambulance.

Starting today, the government will operate the ‘on-site quarantine and medical support team’ centered on the Ministry of Health and Welfare and check the status of securing treatment beds across the country.

In addition, a total of 34 temporary screening and inspection stations will be newly established across the country.

The number of people infected with the Omicron mutation was 178, the same as yesterday, and there were no additional infections.

Four people infected with Omicron after the third dose remain mild.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), about 11.56 million people have completed the third dose as of yesterday.

The tertiary vaccination rate for the total population is 22.5%.
