Prosecutors conclude not guilty of ‘Corona neglect’

Former Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun were acquitted by the prosecution for negligence in connection with the COVID-19 mass infection that occurred at the Eastern Detention Center in Seoul at the end of last year.

Today (26th), the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office decided not to prosecute after investigating nine cases of accusations against former Minister Chu and former Prime Minister Jeong.

As a result of the epidemiological investigation, the prosecution confirmed that the genotypes of the prisoners and prisoners who were initially positive were different, and it was difficult to recognize a causal relationship between some insufficient measures and group infection.

He explained that he took various measures to prevent infection in consultation with the quarantine authorities, and that there seems to be no negligence in responding poorly.

Previously, civic groups accused Choo and others of abandoning his duties, causing 1,205 inmates and employees across the country to become infected and two to die.
