“A booster vaccination is absolutely necessary”… Validity of quarantine pass ‘6 months’

As the number of breakthrough infections in the elderly has increased significantly, the quarantine authorities are betting their lives on additional vaccinations for them. While military medical staff were also deployed to quickly increase the vaccination rate, we are actively considering restricting the validity period of the quarantine pass to six months.

This news is from reporter Park Soo-jin.

At this nursing hospital in Gyeonggi-do, 96% of the 450 residents and workers, or 430, completed the booster vaccination.

Additional vaccinations are still in progress at this nursing hospital in Seoul, and about 90% of about 600 people have been vaccinated.

Recently, cluster infections have been concentrated in nursing hospitals and facilities, and patients with severe cases have also appeared one after another.

That is why the government has strongly recommended vaccination for these people by reducing the interval between boosters by two months over two doses.

Nursing hospitals and facilities planned to complete the booster vaccination by yesterday (26th) at the earliest, but the vaccination rate is still at 61%.

The quarantine authorities received support from 60 military medical personnel, including military doctors, and sent them to areas and facilities that lack inoculation personnel.

[권덕철/보건복지부 장관 : 일상회복으로 나아가기 위해서는 추가 접종이 절대적으로 필요한 상황입니다.]

For this reason, we are actively reviewing measures to put an expiration date on the quarantine pass.

As the vaccination interval for the elderly over 50 has been shortened to 4 to 5 months, it is likely that the maximum period of 5 months will be extended to 6 months by adding one month to the additional vaccination period.

That’s shorter than the nine months the European Union is pushing forward.

Whether the target will be limited to adults or all recipients, including adolescents, and specific operational plans are still under discussion.
