Former lawmaker Son Hye-won, who was sentenced to prison in the first trial for buying real estate under someone else’s name in the Mokpo area, was sentenced to a fine in the appeals court today (25th). The court decided that Son had received confidential data on the development plan in advance, but he did not purchase real estate using only the data.

Former lawmaker Son Hye-won, who was sentenced to one year and six months in prison in the first trial for allegations related to real estate in the Mokpo area.
The second trial judge differed from the original court on the charge of violating the Anti-Corruption Act, which is the main charge.
The biggest issue is whether Son took advantage of the secret he learned while working.
The court judged that the development plan data, such as the urban regeneration strategy plan, received by Rep. Son during a meeting with the mayor of Mokpo on May 18, 2017, was confidential.
Sohn admitted that he knew in advance information that was not disclosed by using his membership as a member of the National Assembly.
The court also concluded that there are suspicious conversations that appear to have been made to purchase real estate using the development plan, but it is difficult to see that the real estate was acquired using only this information.
It is said that Son was interested in regional development, such as having his acquaintances buy real estate in the Mokpo area even before he saw the secret data.
It is judged that it is correct to view the reason for the purchase of the real estate as promoting regional development rather than market price gains.
