WHO: “Royalty-free provision of coronavirus antibody testing technology to low- and middle-income countries”
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that serologic testing technology to test the retention of COVID-19 antibodies will be provided royalty-free to low- and middle-income countries.
The WHO announced that the organization’s ‘Corona 19 technology access pool’ and ‘drug patent pool’ have signed an agreement with the Spanish National Research Council, which owns the technology.
The agreement covers all relevant patents and biological materials necessary for the production of serological tests, the WHO said.
Under the agreement, the Spanish National Research Council will provide knowledge and experience related to serological testing to the pool of drug patents and the like.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “We urge developers of vaccines, treatments and diagnostics for COVID-19 to follow this case and change the course of the pandemic.”
