One month of ‘Stalking Punishment Act’… “The perpetrators should be severely punished.”

It’s been a month since the Stalking Penalty Act was enforced. However, as in the case of the death of a woman in her 30s a few days ago, the situation for the victims is not improving. There are also criticisms that the stalking punishment law needs to be supplemented.

This is reporter Ha Jeong-yeon.

On the 19th, the victim who was stabbed to death by a knife wielded by Mr. Kim, who was persistently stalking, moved to a temporary shelter and was also protected by the police.

A total of 5 calls to 112 in the past 5 months.

The police have taken measures such as a ban on access in accordance with the Stalking Punishment Act, but they have not been able to stop the horrific crime.

Because of this, experts put their heads together as they pointed out the effectiveness of the current stalking punishment law.

As in this case, it was agreed that measures to prevent stalking in advance are far from reality.

Violation of the prohibition of access and prohibition of contact orders is punishable only after the fact, and the level of punishment is also to the extent of imposing a fine for negligence.

Therefore, it is pointed out that the police should actively use measures to temporarily imprison the perpetrators based on the judgment of the court.

There were also voices calling for a reexamination of the provisions on non-intentional punishment specified in the Stalking Punishment Act.

There are many cases where it is difficult to actively demand punishment because the victim is afraid.

A total of 3,314 reports of damage were received during the month of enforcement of the Stalking Punishment Act.

It is pointed out that we should think about effective sanctions against the perpetrators rather than putting the protection of victims first.
