A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck southeast of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea


The Korea Meteorological Administration reported, citing foreign observation agencies, that an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred at 11:08:05 Korean time on the 18th at 11:08:05 Korean time in waters 189 km southeast of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea, in the South Pacific Ocean.

The epicenter is 5.32 degrees south latitude and 153.67 degrees east longitude, and the depth of the earthquake is 36 km.

To date, the extent of the damage is unknown.
