Unbeatable! ABBA tops UK charts with “Voyage”, their first album since 1981

Swedish pop group ABBA has topped the UK charts with “Voyage,” the quartet’s first studio album since 1981, the official body reported on Friday.

Voyage has sold 204,000 units in seven days since its release last Friday, the biggest UK album release in four years since British pop star Ed Sheeran’s Divide.

Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid (ABBA acronym) had not released any songs since they broke up in late 1982, a year after their last album “The Visitors”.

Voyage is their 10th album to become number one in the UK: only seven other groups or artists – the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie – have more.

“We are very pleased that our fans seem to have enjoyed our new album as much as we have enjoyed doing it,” the band commented in a statement.

The 204,000 sales include 90% physical albums, of which 29,900 are vinyl, making it the most important vinyl release of the 21st century in a single week.
