Pope condemns drone attack on Iraqi prime minister’s residence “Evil Terrorism”

Pope Francis has strongly condemned the drone strikes on the Iraqi prime minister’s residence, calling it an “evil act of terrorism.”

According to the Vatican, the Pope sent a message through Secretary of State Pietro Parolin to Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

Earlier, on Sunday, the 7th, a drone attack targeted Prime Minister al-Kadhimi’s residence in the ‘Green Zone’, a secure area in Baghdad, Iraq.

Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi was unharmed, but part of his official residence was destroyed and seven security guards were injured.

“I hope that Pope Francis prayerfully conveys intimacy to Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi, the Prime Minister’s family and the wounded,” said Parolin, Secretary of State, in the preamble.

“The Pope condemns this evil act of terror, and I am confident that the Iraqis will, under the blessing of the Lord, exercise their wisdom and strength, and continue to pursue the path of peace based on dialogue and fraternal solidarity,” he added.

The Pope is known for his special interest and affection for Iraq, which has been ravaged by war and terrorism.

In March, despite concerns about personal safety, I visited Iraq for 4 days and 3 nights.
