Lee In-young “The end of this year – early next year, a precious time to save the spark of inter-Korean dialogue”

Unification Minister Lee In-young said, “The time from the end of this year to the beginning of next year is a very important time for us to take even one step necessary for peace on the Korean Peninsula.”

Minister Lee said at the inauguration ceremony for the ‘East-West Unification Walk on the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Peace Road Crossing East-West’ held at the Key Observatory in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do, on the morning of the 6th. You have to be focused,” he said.

The remarks seem to have in mind the situation in which the next presidential election will be held in March next year and the current government’s term will end in May next year.

Minister Lee also emphasized the need to move toward peace on the Korean Peninsula independently, regardless of the situation, referring to the stalemate in inter-Korean relations, from the tensions between the U.S. and North Korea in 2017 to the no-deal in Hanoi in 2019.

This inauguration ceremony is the first event of the DMZ Peace Road Reunification Walk East-West Crossing Event, which will be held for 7 nights and 8 days from today to the 13th.

Participants will walk about 180km from the Key Observatory in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do to the Unification Observatory in Goseong, Gangwon-do.

The Ministry of Unification plans to create a DMZ mobile app from February next year, and create a web map covering the geography, environment, and history of the DMZ and open it to the public.
