Large gas explosion in downtown Shenyang, China… “4 killed, 47 injured”

On the morning of the 21st, a large gas explosion occurred in the city of Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, killing 4 people and injuring 47 people.

According to authorities in Heping District, Shenyang, an explosion occurred at a restaurant in Taiyuan Street, Heping District, about 1.5 km from Shenyang Railway Station around 8:20 am (local time) today.

Shenyang city authorities said today that four people were killed, 47 people were seriously injured, and several nearby buildings and vehicles were damaged in the accident.

It is known that the explosion was so loud that the explosion sound was clearly audible and white smoke was visible even in Sita, a residential area with a high concentration of Koreans, about 3 km away from the accident site.

An injured person in the hospital told the local media at the time, “I was at a point less than 100m from the point of explosion, and was thrown out of the door after being at the entrance.”

The black box of a vehicle passing around the accident site recorded scenes of people frightened by the explosion and hastily evacuated.

It was rush hour at the time of the accident, so there were many passers-by and vehicles on the street, and a bus was also passing by.

An eyewitness said, “It is not the power that can be caused by a single gas cylinder exploding.” He estimated that “there is a possibility that the gas may have exploded after the gas was spread by destroying a gas pipe buried underground at a nearby construction site.”

Another resident said, “The gas pipe was remodeled the day before, and gas supply resumed on the 21st.”

Shenyang authorities are controlling the area around the accident site and investigating the cause of the accident.

It is said that the Korean victim in today’s accident has not been identified yet.
